David Fulton began his yoga practice about 5 years ago. His interest in exploring a variety of different styles, as well as his integration of the practice in his everyday life make him a wonderful yogi to feature this month.
What attracted you to yoga? Why did you start?
I started doing yoga about 5 years ago. Friends suggested I try it. I was looking for an exercise regimen that was not too strenuous and included stretching.
What is your favorite type or style of yoga?
I’ve done Iyengar and Kripalu style. I attended several Kripalu classes there and liked the emphasis on using yoga in all aspects of your life, not just in class.
What keeps you doing yoga?
I can see how it’s helping me stay calm and centered as well as more physically flexible.
What is your favorite yoga pose and why?
Fish - Feeling the openness and the stretch
What other activities do you enjoy?
Reading and playing guitar.
An inspiring book or movie you recommend?
The books of Malcolm Gladwell are always thought-provoking and challenging.
Favorite place to be?
By the fireplace on a winter night with a book and a cat in my lap.
What do you like best about All That Matters?
Warm atmosphere and friendly instructors. Also the variety of classes and special programs.
Advice to beginners?
Do what you can. Do it every day, even if just for a little while. Don’t gauge your progress by how others in the class are doing. Someone else will always be more flexible and can do that headstand easily.
