108 Sun Salutations with Coral Brown
Sun, Dec 21

Welcome the return of light and celebrate the Winter Solstice by offering 108 sun salutations to the high noon sun on the shortest day of the year.

The sacred number of 108 carries major significance for many yogic and spiritual traditions. The natural division of a circle, 108 is present in many different symbolic pieces including malas, or prayer beads. Many spiritual and scientific traditions have found the number 108 in a variety of places including:

Sun + Earth: The distance between the sun and the earth is 108 times the sun’s diameter

Moon + Earth: The distance between the moon and the earth is 108 times the moon’s diameter.

Silver and the Moon: The metal silver is said to represent the moon. The atomic weight of silver is 108.

Time: Some say there are 108 feelings. 36 related to the past, 36 related to the present and 36 related to the future.

Heart Chakra: There are said to be 108 energy lines converging to form the heart chakra.

Vinyasa: 108 is equal to 12 times the number 9, which is the number of vinyasa (movements linked to breath) in a Sun Salutation.

Explore your own connection to the sacred 108 and stretch your limits as you prepare for the winter season. Open up and invite in the Winter Solstice as you set your intentions for abundance, peace, joy and happiness.
