What attracted you to yoga?Yoga helped lessen some medical conditions such as cardiac arrhythmia, anxiety, and back issues. I started and noticed a change right away in my ability to fight my strongest foe – anxiety!
What is your favorite type or style of yoga and why?
I like pure and organic yoga, in other words all that “power” stuff is not for me. I like gentle stretching, breathing, and learning new asanas. I’ve been doing yoga for three years now and I am ready to learn some new poses. It took me a while, but now I am ready. I love that with yoga there is no “should-a, would-a, could-a!” Everything has progressed at my own pace.
What is your favorite yoga pose and why?
The half lotus with one leg up allows me to stretch and soothe my problematic lower back. It’s also a very comfortable meditation position. I also have studied mudras and try to use them in my practice. One of my favorites is the lotus mudra. The hands are positioned in a way that looks like a flower reaching for the sun. When I use this pose and this mudra, I am in heaven!
What do you like most about All That Matters?
I love my teacher, Mel Wegimont, aka, the fabulous Mel. She is a very intuitive teacher and her students are as devoted as I am. I have blossomed under her loving teaching. I also love the All That Matters community. In addition to gracing those who enter its doors, it transforms our little seaside town for the best. It is such a gem.
If you could give beginners one piece of advice, what would it be?
Try it at least five times.
Any other words of wisdom?
I will continue to practice yoga for the rest of my life. I am proof that yoga can help someone feel healthier and become transformed by the practice. It leaves me in wonderment and awe each time I take a class at All That Matters or practice at home.
What other activities do you enjoy?
I am fairly simple. I love being with my family, taking walks, the beach, reading, movies, museums, and travel. Oh, and I love Instagram too. :)
An inspiring book or movie you would recommend?
The Art of Being a Healing Presence by Miller and Cutshall. There is peace within its pages. It is a lovely thing to be connected to one another and this book so gracefully explains how we can nurture one another. This book rarely leaves my thoughts.
Favorite place to be and why?
If I can’t be in the city of Florence, Italy, I would like to be in Lovers Key, Florida. If I can’t be there, I will take my little old hometown of Wakefield, RI. It’s a wonderful piece of heaven too!
