MBSR- Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction


Developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center by Jon Kabat-Zinn, MBSR is a highly effective eight-week program for treating stress-related disorders. It emerged from a new branch of healthcare called Participatory Medicine. Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of your experiences in the present moment. Cultivating this practice allows you to enter into deeper states of consciousness where you access wisdom, insight and your body’s innate healing ability. This transforms your habitual reactions to stress so that you can relax, regain control, and have more enthusiasm for life. Those who completed the program have reported a renewed sense of well-being and an enhanced ability to face everyday challenges. Additionally, the instruction has proven effective for stress-related illnesses, such as:

Erin Sharaf

Erin Sharaf, PA-C, completed her physician assistant studies at Yale University School of Medicine. She participated in a professional training program under the direction of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and has interned with a senior instructor at the Center for Mindfulness Stress Reduction Program. She has had training in mind-body medicine at Mass.General's Mind/Body Medicine Institute. Wanting to offer her patients more, she has completed a master's degree in Integrative Medicine at Lesley University.
