Kristi Martel

Kristi Martel's yoga practice began over 15 years ago after badly injuring her back. Within 5 months she lost 40 pounds and could once again touch her toes. Since then, she has practiced Iyengar, Prana Flow®, Dharma, Baptiste Power, Restorative, and Yin yoga, as well as Yoga Nidra; she finds the flexible medium of heated vinyasa integrates ALL of these practices. Kristi is a longtime student of Rhode Island's Divya, Tom Gillette, and Jessie Meyer-Eisendrath, and she completed Yogaphoria's 200-hour Yoga and Wellness Teacher Training with Seane Corn, Anodea Judith, and Matthew Sanford in 2011.

Kristi teaches alignment-focused, often slow, vinyasa that is geared toward making the poses accessible to every body. She also teaches meditative restorative classes that help heal injured bodies and busy minds and all their related symptoms. Her classes are joyful, reverent, and engaged, and inspire you to cultivate awareness, fine-tune alignment, awaken flexibility, embody prana (breath energy), and open your eyes, heart, ears, and chakras as you place your body and intention in a special way -- and receive the gift of being sung to in savasana. In addition to being a devoted yogini, Kristi is a nationally touring and recording pianist, vocalist, songwriter, and music teacher with awards, degrees, and over 20 years experience. Kristi is also the mother of her sweet girl Maggie.

Kristi Martel instructs the following:
  • Yoga I/II
  • This is one of our Foundations classes.

This Yoga I/II blended class includes key instruction for beginner yogis, while offering options for experienced yogis to deepen and further their practice. Teachers address various levels while adapting to students' needs.

  • Chakra Yoga

  • This is one of our Focused classes.

In the Yogic tradition, the human body has seven main energy centers called Chakras (Sanskrit for “wheel” or “disc”). When these energy centers are vibrant, spinning and open, we are physically, emotionally, and spiritually in balance and well. This class brings awareness to the distinctive qualities of each Chakra through teachings, moving meditation, and a flowing asana practice. Essential oils and/or use of the Nepalese singing bowl may be incorporated during extended savasana to emphasize the attributes of each energy center.
